What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is an inflammation in the gums, caused by the accumulation of bacteria on the teeth and gumline. Some of the symptoms of gum disease include:

  • Teeth that appear longer than they used to
  • Gums that are receding, or pulling back from the teeth
  • Loose teeth or tooth loss
  • Gums that bleed when you brush or floss
  • Swollen, red, or inflamed gums
  • Tender gums
  • Discomfort when chewing

Gum Disease Relief at Cascadia Family Dental

At Cascadia Family Dental, our goal is to effectively mitigate gum disease before it causes your smile any permanent harm. We provide deep cleanings to reverse gum disease and restore your oral health.

The deep cleaning process includes two parts: scaling and root planing.

During scaling, our highly trained and gentle hygienists remove all of the plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline. Root planing means smoothing out the tooth roots to help the gums reattach to the teeth, and prevent future bacteria buildup.

Mild cases of gum disease may be reversed after a single deep cleaning. Other patients may need to return a few times for deep cleanings or regular cleanings to remove all of the stubborn plaque.

Don’t worry—your comfort is important to us. We will provide a local anesthetic during the process so you can remain pain-free.

If you believe you may be experiencing the symptoms of gum disease, call Cascadia Family Dental to schedule an appointment with our caring dentist today.
